WordPress Adds Many New Services To Its Thirteenth Major Release

By Joe Griffin

Blogging has been a very big part of the advancement in technology we have witnessed in the past decade. There have been numerous blogging websites that have come up, all giving users the chance to create their own accounts and develop their own blogs.

Blogs are the new form of media. More and more people have used their blogs to voice out their ideas and opinions about whatever is happening around the world. Sites such as WordPress have dominated the blogging market for years now. Other social networking websites have also followed suit and set up their very own blogging tools.

This week, though, the popular blogging software WordPress has just released its latest and most innovative version yet: Thelonius or WordPress 3.0. Thelonius is the thirteenth major release from the popular blogging software since it began. WordPress 3.0 is a product of half a year's worth of hard work and research by the company from its over 200 contributors. WordPress users can now download the update from the company website.

There are plenty of new features to look forward to with regards WordPress 3.0. The first in line is the newest WordPress theme aptly called the "Twenty Ten." The theme enables users to see the newest upgrades that WordPress has installed to Thelonius. This includes new backgrounds, headers, menus, post types, taxonomies, and short links.

The new WordPress also features a lighter interface, numerous new bug fixes, and several updates and help options. A new API allows users to access all of these updates for their use.

With WordPress 3.0, users can also easily manage multiple blogs at the same time. This is because of the merge that happened with WordPress and another blogging tool, MU. WordPress founder Matt Mullenweg says that the company will be focusing on developing the 3.0 version first, fixing the glitches that will come up, before they move forward and start developing the 3.1 version.

"Over the next three months, we're going to split into ninja/pirate teams focused on different areas of the around-WordPress experience," states the company CEO. He further adds that the company will be focusing on improving features such as the "showcase, codex, forums, profiles, update and compatibility APIs, theme directory, plug-in directory, mailing lists, [and] core plug-ins." This focus intends to make WordPress 3.0 the strongest version yet in the market.
